What if I told you that coaches do make such mistakes in kids soccer drills that have the potential to destroy a team and make it a loser. Yes, it’s a fact. Most of you might wonder as to what can be so big that puts the team on a loosing streak. Well, let it be known that there are many.

With respect to soccer drills for kids, you’ve got to act very cautiously and tactfully. You must recognize kids psychology. Communicate with them in a way that suits their age level. But unfortunately, many coaches are unprepared to adjust to it. They fail to realize that there is a distinction in coaching kids and coaching grown-up players.

So there you have it; top faults of coaches that bring the teams to a point, from where it’s near impossible to get back on to the winning track.

1. To many coaches, their job appears to be very simple. They don’t consider in necessary to be prompt in reaching the ground, set up the drills, or systematize practice sessions. All these are not only bad traits but put off the kids too. Just like the kids, you too should get serious about soccer. Plan the youth soccer drills in advance. If you need certain equipment to carry out the drills, arrange it before hand.

Always be prompt. Don’t be the one to reach the field later than the kids. Well in fact, grace the filed with your presence when kids reach. It provides you some spare time to review the drills and organize things better.

2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Can you anticipate how boring that can get? Know that kids come to the field to play and not listen to boring speeches. Keep your instructions brief and to the point. These sessions should be used to boost the confidence of the kids as well as motivate them.

It is crucial that you do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If the kids do anything incorrectly, make a note of it and share it afterwards. Also, observe the kids from outside when they are playing.

3. Some coaches use harsh and offensive language with the kids. In soccer drills for youth, this can prove to be catastrophic. It is bad to display weak behaviour on the soccer field. It is imperative that the kids will make mistakes. Always remember that they are young. You should not take it seriously and get offensive with the players.

Quite possible you may not agree with me on this, but still, lend me your ears. In kids soccer drills, the methods used to train small kids and older players are significantly different. This is because the former are in the first stage of the learning curve while the latter have a good idea as to what is it that they prefer to do and what not.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. It’s a known fact that kids ought to have lots and lots of fun in the game, in order to make them love the game. They’ll begin to avoid playing soccer in case they don’t like it. Kids try to find ways to disintegrate with the sport. So persevere and don’t push them too hard initially.

This makes the players liable for their acts.

However, be particular about it. Do not be cruel to the kid. He should not be ignored or made fun of. As an example, you can keep the boy away from a training session as a punishment.

Kids Soccer Drills: 4 Tips To Warm-up

In kids soccer drills, it’s surprising that warm up before playing is considered unimportant. It is obligatory for me as a coach to highlight the fact that warm up sessions before practice is compulsory and helps players begin their day at a brilliant note. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. This has a direct affect on the health of players in form of injuries while practicing.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the players to warm up by following those body movements that help all muscles to work up. This is the correct method of stirring up all the body parts. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.

Tip 1: In this make the players go for a light 5 to 7 minute jog. It is advocated that players begin printing only after a light jogging.
This must increase the pulse rate to at least 120 beats per minute. Yet, the rate should increase gradually. Then make them swing their legs forward cross-body for about 10 times each. Finally, over 20 yards, make them stretch actively.

Tip 2: Having said that, do remember that even this active stretching over 20 yards comes with some warm up drills of its own. Like the players can bounce backward and forward. Teach the players cross stepping as well. High-knee carioca can also be taught to players. You can have these performed similar to sprinting.

Backward run is also a highly effective warm up drill in soccer drills for kids. But the best way to carry it out is to raise the heels up to the butt. No doubt, it is a little difficult to practice it this way but there’s no other way of correctly doing it.

Tip 3: There are other essential warm up exercises in kids soccer drills that build up the momentum to the actual session. Have your players bounce with rings and swings. These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. You can also make your players do the intersecting skipping. Quick Hip Swings is somewhat difficult to practice but it highly useful and a tried and tested technique to warm up the body.

Next, make the players do long shuffles with turns in the middle. Make them practice forward and backward leg swings. This is a highly effective and useful body toning activity. Similarly high leg forward and backward is very useful too.

Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. The legs benefit the most out of stretch hinge. Make sure all players have worked out their quadriceps, calves, hamstring, and groin without fail. Stretching has the benefit of preventing injury along with increasing the muscle range.

Also ensure that in soccer drills for youth, kids are discouraged from overdoing anything. They tend to get carried over by enthusiasm and injure themselves unnecessarily.

Being a coach, I’d let it be known that warming up is not only compulsory but is even critical to begin the day’s play at a brighter and healthier note. In youth soccer drills, this point is easily skipped by many coaches. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Train the team to use the body movements in a way that all the muscles get worked up. In the spare time, kids should play about with a soccer ball. Guide the kids to just spin the ball backward and forward with the help of the weaker foot even when they are sitting. The more it is done, the more control can be maintained with the ball.
